National Biennial Conferences
The conference is to be hosted by the Queensland Branch of the Society and will be held at Easter, 18 to 21 Apr 2014 in Maryborough, Queensland.
Conference Theme: 2014 marks the centenary of the outbreak of World War One. This year’s conference theme recognizes the impact 1914 had on Australia.
Conference venue: The conference will be held at one of Australia’s finest private museums, the Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum, 106 Wharf Street, Maryborough Qld 4650
Cost: The cost for the two day conference is $70 (or $40 per day). The Conference Dinner is an additional $40 per person. Registration fees include morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
Conference Program: Outline Itinerary:
- For those arriving on Friday at Hervey Bay airport - pickup is available upon request by completing the Arrival Section on the RSVP Form
- A ‘Meet & Greet’ will be held Friday evening at the Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum, 106 Wharf Street, Maryborough at 6.00 pm
- Conference start at 8:30 am on Saturday
- Dinner Sat night at RSL Maryborough 6.30pm for 7pm, coat and tie with miniatures
- Sunday commence again at 9am

Conference Dinner: The Conference dinner is on Saturday 19 April located upstairs at the Maryborough RSL Club, 165-173 Lennox Street, Maryborough. Dinner is at 6.30 for a 7.00 pm start. We are honoured to have Mr Keith Payne VC OAM, honorary member of MHSA QLD, as the guest speaker for the evening. Please advise of special dietary requirements
Getting to Maryborough: Maryborough is located 3 hours’ drive north of Brisbane, and 30 minutes from Hervey Bay. A daily flight (Virgin Australia) travels direct from Sydney to Hervey Bay and return.
Attendees can be picked up from Hervey Bay Airport on arrival and transferred to their Motel providing they complete the travel section on the RSVP Form. Return transport will collect attendees at 10.45 am from the Comfort Inn Blue Shades Motel or the Arkana Motel to connect with Virgin Australia departure flights to Sydney, ETD 12.30 pm.
Accommodation: Discount room rates have been reserved at the Comfort Inn Blue Shades Motel 35 Ferry Street, Maryborough. Book early to secure your room as it is the Easter Long weekend. The Comfort Inn Blue Shades Motel has a restaurant that serves quality A la Carte and home style meals.
Prices are per room per night and do not include food: A Single room $80; Couple $90 and Twin $95.
Motel to Venue Transport: A bus will collect, deliver and return members and guests staying at the Comfort Inn Blue Shades Motel or the Arkana Motel to the conference venue daily.
Military Historical Displays: Members and guests are encouraged to bring along items of interest to be displayed during the conference. These displays will add interest and atmosphere to the conference venue
Conference Photographs: MHSA member Allan Fuary is offering his photographic skills to conference attendees. He can supply back-drops and print photos on the spot in minutes. Partner’s Maryborough Bus Tour on Saturday 19 April 2014: Depending on expressions of interest an hour free guided bus tour of historical Maryborough is available to partners. To register your interest complete the section on the RSVP Form.
